An 11-year-old boy is being recognized as a local hero after he helped save not one, but two people in one day. Davyon Johnson gained public recognition after he helped save another student from suffocation and then helped a woman in a house fire.
Based on KOCODavyon’s heroic act came about earlier this month when he saw another student choke on a bottle cap. His principal, Latricia Dawkins, explained that the other student was trying to refill his water bottle, and he loosened the cap with his mouth, and the cap slid down his throat. “Davyon immediately ran over and did the Heimlich maneuver,” she said. “According to eyewitness accounts, when he did, the bottle cap popped off.”
Davyon says he learned how to control Heimlich from watching YouTube. “Just in case you’re in the same situation as me, you probably know what to do,” he said.
Later that day he helped a disabled woman escape a house fire. “It was a woman with a disability and she was walking out of her house,” said Davyon. She is on her porch. But I thought, being a good citizen, I would cross over and help her get in the truck and leave.” He said the fire started at the back of the house before spreading to the front.
Dayvon’s mother, LaToya Johnson, shares that her brother is an emergency medical technician and says: “I’m just a proud mom.”
Dayvon’s principal also said, “He was a man of good character and loved by his colleagues and staff.”
