A 14-year-old girl was charged with murder Monday following the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy during a fight, according to Dallas police.
At about 2 p.m. Sunday, police were called to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex south of Dallas.
During the investigation of the shooting, police identified an altercation going on between the two girls in the parking lot of the complex.
“A juvenile suspect took a handgun and fired it at the woman she was fighting with; however, the shot hit a young male bystander,” police said in a statement.
Police said the 11-year-old boy was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries.
The suspect initially ran away from the location but was later arrested and charged, and she remained Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Centerpolice said.
One weapon was recovered during the investigation, the agency added.
Police did not release the names of those involved in the incident due to their age.
