After going viral for several hours, the highly anticipated collaboration between Adidas and Gucci is a hot topic right now in China, but not necessarily for the right reasons. Social network users Weibo Particularly important for one item, an umbrella (supposedly) sells for more than $1,600, practically offering no protection from the rain.
This umbrella, priced at 11,000 yuan (or more than $1,600), is printed entirely in monograms by adidas and Gucci, and finished in cotton and linen blends with a carved birch wood handle. And a note, spotted at the bottom of the page, mentions that “this item is not waterproof and is intended for sun protection or decorative use.”
“Think about the Adidas x Gucci collaboration umbrella that costs 10,000 yuan but is not waterproof? Why can’t high-priced products have basic functions?” said a user.
“Would you spend more than 10,000 yuan on a non-waterproof umbrella?” another asked. The discussion is so heated on social media, that a hashtag related to the topic now has more than 140 million views, the BBC reports.
