Admissions in DU through CU-CET from this year: Vice chancellor Yogesh Singh | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: The University of Delhi has chosen CU-CET (Central Universities Common Entrance Test) as its undergraduate entrance exam method for the 2022-23 academic year. This was revealed to TOI by the vice principal Yogesh Singh on Saturday. Ministry of Education and National testing agency (NTA) is responsible for conducting the exam.
This ended speculation that the university could choose its own entrance exams. A notice released by the university on December 20, 2021, said, “The Executive Board of University of Delhi at its meeting to be held on December 17, 2021 it was resolved that admissions for the 2022-2023 Course onwards in all undergraduate courses … would be done through the Exam. Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) or University of Delhi Common Entrance Test (DUCK). ”
“We are working on the project. We will soon set up a committee to review the whole process and coordinate with the ministry and the NTA,” Mr. Singh said.
“Since the initial announcement, not much has happened on that front. The university is, perhaps, waiting for some directive or clarity from the department. With the Covid cases it continues to happen again. , just wondering how the ministry would do,” one university said. official. Under the normal schedule, the admission process for UG courses starts in April-May. It was delayed for the last two sessions because of Covid and the admission process took place in September-October.
The university has chosen entrance exams to combat the high cutbacks and disproportionate number of student admissions from some departments. The university has set up a committee to study the enrollment patterns and as a result students from Kerala are dominating the popular colleges.
Twelve central universities – none from Delhi – are part of CU-CET today. Exams have so far been held for 64 undergraduate and integrated courses run by these universities. There are multiple choice based questions (MCQ) for Bachelor and Bachelor courses. To date, no exam on commerce has been held but B.Com (H) and B.Com . Program are popular courses at DU.
The exam paper for BSc has two parts – Part A is English, general knowledge and numerical ability with 25 points allotted while Part B is topic specific such as Physics Chemistry, Math and Biology, with another 25 points. For BA/Diploma, basically courses in humanities, English, numerical aptitude/data interpretation, analytical skills, reasoning, general aptitude and general knowledge score 100 . After the entrance exam, each university publishes its own list of achievements and conducts consultations.
The teachers are divided on the decision to conduct the exams. Critics feel it will promote a coaching culture that will ultimately deprive students from the poorer sections of society.
