Ahead of Rahul yatra entering Rajasthan, Congress puts up unity show | India News

JAIPUR: Parliamentary Secretary-General KC Venugopal tried to allay deep party differences in Rajasthan by showing solidarity in front of the media by holding and raising the hands of CM Ashok Gehlot and former deputy CM Sachin Pilot after Tuesday meeting for Bharat Jodo Yatra entering the state on December 4.
Fencing heavyweights Gehlot and Pilot laughed and smiled during the photo session and answered questions from the media alongside Venugopal and PCC director Govind Singh Dotasra. The symbolism was not lost when their friendly act came a few days after Gehlot called the Pilot a “gaddar” (traitor) in an interview with the NDTV news channel.
“This is Rajasthan Parliament. We are completely one,” Venugopal said after a meeting for the yatra led by Rahul Gandhi that will be in the state until December 21.
According to Venugopal, Pilot and Gehlot have said that they will work together for yatra as well as elections. “Rahul Gandhi has made it clear that both Gehlot and Pilot are party property,” he said.
The team released a video where Pilot and Gehlot greeted each other after arriving at the meeting location. Together they interact with the media.
Gehlot said there is no number 1, number 2 or number 3 in Parliament. “All are equal. Everyone is united in Rajasthan. We are both property, then where is the dispute? Rahul Gandhi also meant that every worker of the party is an asset.”
This could also mean that three of his loyalists were reported for indiscipline as well.
Venugopal said he sought a report from the PCC chair on people who have made public statements following the party’s gag order on factional politics since the failed CLP meeting on September 25.
For his part, Pilot said people boarded the plane to power up the party. “No one can provoke us… (Yatra) will be greeted with utmost enthusiasm and energy in Rajasthan.” Venugopal, who also predicts that the National Assembly will win the 2023 parliamentary elections, said the yatra has rattled and demoralized the BJP and it will be a huge success in Rajasthan.
