Scott Pilgrim seems ready for a comeback, and not only in video games. The Hollywood Reporter Yes have learned Netflix and Universal’s UCP (the unit behind Oh Academy) is developing a Scott Pilgrim cartoon series. It’s unclear how closely this will happen with the original graphic novel, but creator Bryan Lee O’Malley and 2010 film director Edgar Wright will serve as executive producers.
O’Malley will act as host along with Are you afraid of the Dark? resurrected BenDavid Grabinski. Science SARU is animating the project.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the series sticks to the core plot: Sex Bob-omb bandleader Scott wants to win over Ramona Flowers, but can’t date her until he’s beaten. her seven evil exes. Both the graphic novel and the movie nod to story, indie rock, video games and millennial Canadian culture.
This is a somewhat unusual twist on a familiar formula. While Netflix has no qualms about ambitious anime plan, it usually focuses on Japanese originals or adaptations Game and manga. Here, the streaming service is adapting a manga that was once a tribute to the West – and a series that many may only know through the big screen. Netflix’s strategy isn’t clear, but it could be seen as a way to introduce its anime catalog to a larger audience.
