Apple hints at its first dual-port USB-C power adapter

Apple isn’t exactly famous for its cutting-edge power adapters – it took a long time for the company to catch on gallium nitride (for present MacBook Pro), and it’s often stuck with basic 5W iPhone adapters while the charger in the box is still a thing. However, the company may be open to exploring ‘new’ territory. 9to5Mac and AppleInsider reports that Apple has briefly posted the support document for the “35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter” on its website. While this glimpse doesn’t include images or many details, the accessory will support the USB Power Delivery fast charging standard.

It’s unclear if the brick uses GaN or offers any special features. However, 35W suggests this will be for mobile devices rather than Macs. You can fast charge one iPhone 13 Pro Max (supports up to 27W) while leaving enough power for a Apple Watch or AirPods. Multi-port chargers are actually not uncommon in the third-party market, but this can be tempting if you insist on a full-fledged solution.

It’s also uncertain when Apple might release a dual-port power adapter. This is not the type of product that has time to use the device at an event like WWDCand there is no guarantee that it will launch alongside a higher spec device. While this apparent slide could hint at an imminent launch, that launch could easily be in the next few months.
