Croatia are heading for their second consecutive World Cup semi-final after beating Brazil on penalties (4-2), after drawing 1-1 in extra time.

In a World Cup full of shocks and upheavals, Croatia has joined the list of giants killing Qatar.

Brazil dominated the game, but could not break through Croatia’s resilient defense or get past Dominik Livaković, who was once again a penalty shoot-out hero when he saved Rodrygo’s first penalty.

After Croatia scored all four, it was Marquinhos who missed all of the crucial penalties, sending his low shot wide of the post. Neymar, who was presumably waiting to take the fifth penalty, didn’t even get a chance to take it.

After 90 goalless minutes, Brazil finally broke through the Croatian defense thanks to the Neymar amulet. The PSG forward made a series of cute exchanges with his teammates before surging past the keeper and finishing in the net.

There was always the feeling that Croatia would get the chance, and it finally came in the 116th minute when Bruno Petković’s deflected shot gave Croatia the equalizer.

All of Croatia’s knockout wins in 2018 came after extra time and this year the team did it again, beat Japan for the first time and now Brazil. Looks like they can’t be defeated!

Croatia will face the winner of the Argentina vs Netherlands match, which kicks off at 2 p.m. ET on Friday.
