Arsenal are moving closer to bringing academy star Khayon Edwards to a professional signing in north London.

The teenager sensation has been involved in negotiations over his future with the Gunners for months due to interest from elsewhere. Edwards was once a star in the youth ranks and is now close to landing a professional contract at Emirates. The 18-year-old currently has a scholarship contract that will expire at the end of the season.

Edwards has the same agent as Bukayo Saka, who Arsenal also looking to come to an improved agreement and reports that a deal is close to being finalized that will see the teenager stay in north London. ChelseaLeeds and Newcastle were among those keeping an eye on Edwards.

He has scored 16 goals in as many outings for the U18s while also adding six assists. The teenager is among the club’s young players currently holding discussions over a new deal.

Academy boss Per Mertesacker recently opened up his vision of building a “strong young Gunner” as he explained: “I think it was built four years ago, during my last season as a manager. as a player I have come up with a framework of what I believe in, from my own experience and also by talking to people.

“The strong young Gunners means this is our vision, where we want our players to stand their ground in any situation they will face. We are passionate about creating young players who have the power to play. can rise to any challenge, and we have a rich history and legacy that we want to honor and carry on.”

Teen’s deal expires this summer

Academy star Charlie Patino was given a few minutes this semester

Young Arsenal stars continue to be given opportunities under Mikel Arteta. A lot of hope is placed on midfielder Charlie Patino, who has been on the pitch for a few minutes this term. The teenager made his Carabao Cup debut as a substitute against Sunderland – scoring in a 5-1 win. Then he was given his first start in FA Cup.

The Gunners have worked hard to lower the average age of the squad and return youth. Much of their summer recruitment focuses on bringing in players of a certain age. More changes are expected this summer, and that could benefit Edwards.

The young forward could see an opportunity coming his way as Arsenal face the threat of losing Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah with both ready to leave for nothing when their contracts expire this summer. .
