Arsenal are said to have told Dusan Vlahovic he has until the middle of next week to decide on a big-money move from Fiorentina this month.
Vlahovic is the Gunners’ priority target in the January transfer window with Mikel Arteta yearning for a new striker.
The 21-year-old has caught the attention of several European clubs by scoring 17 goals in just 21 Serie A appearances this season.
He has a contract with Fiorentina until June 2023 and has so far refused to commit to a new deal amid growing interest from other clubs.

Fiorentina became extremely frustrated by the situation and La Republicca said Arsenal had asked for an answer ‘next half a week’.
The Gunners are said to have been in contact with Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso for a month, but things have been slow.
That stance is reflected in comments from Fiorentina’s sporting director, Joe Barone, on Thursday.
“Several English clubs have contacted Fiorentina, but there is no agreement,” he said La Nazione .
“The English club want Vlahovic, but obviously he has other ideas. We are ready to negotiate, but he and his agent will not talk.”
He added: “There are no loopholes from Vlahovic’s agent. No contact information available [from Vlahovic’s camp].
“I asked for clarity [over the player’s plans] and I spoke to his agent to be clear to us. But there was no contact on that front. ”

It seems that Vlahovic is delaying the time to fully consider his options.
Young players are understood to want Champions League football, which Arsenal cannot currently offer.
Juve are said to be preparing a £58m bid including Dejan Kulusevski in an attempt to sabotage Arsenal’s plans.
La Republicca reports Vlahovic is in no hurry to decide on his future and could stay with Fiorentina until the end of the season.
Italian publication says a move to Premier League is a dream, but he would rather move to Manchester City.

City have been linked with Vlahovic since losing Sergio Aguero last summer, while selling Ferran Torres to Barcelona The beginning of this month means a striker is on the card.
However, City may have found their man in River Plate forward Julian Alvarez, who is edging closer to a move to the Premier League.
Based on The Athletic Man City are confident they can complete the deal before the January transfer deadline.
Alvarez has a £20.9m (£25m) release clause and is expected to stay with River until the summer before joining the 2022/23 campaign.
