Best-selling Steam games and most played games of 2021

When 2021 ends, Valve has announced its annual Steam best list, which reveals this year’s bestsellers, top new releases, most played games, and more. Valve data shows many of the most popular games on Steam on any given day, including nearly a decade old titles like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and car theft 5, continues to outsell and play more than newcomers to the PC platform.

Each of Valve’s year-end summaries contains a handful of games with their orders listed at random, so it’s not clear which individual games are the best-selling or most-played in a category. Specifically. Platinum games are in the top 12, with Gold games making up 13-24. Silver games are ranked 25 to 40 and bronze games 41 to 100. These lists come from Valve’s internal data starting January 1, 2021 and ending January 1, 2021. December 15, 2021.

The most important entry on Steam’s 2021 best list are the top-selling games, letting players know what was the most successful game of the year. Platinum tier 2021 best-selling games, in random order provided by Valve:

In a blog post, Valve pointed out some interesting repeat offenders. Dota 2, CS GO, and GTA 5 all have been on the top seller list for six years running, with PUBG: Battlegrounds and Rainbow Six Siege each person on the list for the fifth time in a row. Life 2 shortlisted for three years running, with 2019 being the first year on Steam after leaving Blizzard’s Battle.net.

There are several first time winners on the list. New games like Battlefield 2042, New world, and Valheim all favor list. Apex Legends also worth noting, since it’s a non- 2021 game that made it Launched on Steam late last year.

New releases is another exciting category, highlighting the top 25 new games of the year. 2021 Platinum tier top new releases, in random order provided by Valve:

Valve also gives a breakdown of the months in which new releases appear compared to 2020. Last year had a pretty good March and some months of steep declines. 2021 is a bit more sporadic, with three big months with four or five participants per month: May, September and November.

Finally, we’ll take a look at the most played games on Steam, broken down into multiple categories by concurrent players. Here are the 2021 games that have cracked 200,000 concurrent players, randomly ordered by Valve:

Some of last year’s 200K games have also dropped into the lower categories. Fate 2 and Between us dropped on the 100K list in 2021 after making the top list last year. 2020 200K games Terraria falls down the 60K list. Monster Hunter: World, another most played game of 2020, has plummeted to the 30k list.
