Bill The Boxer coached by Tony and Calvin McEvoy extended his unbeaten streak to three this campaign with a decisive victory at Sandown.
Foxwedge’s four-year-old son jumped straight ahead in Wednesday’s Ladbrokes Mates Mode Handicap (1200m) and didn’t give his opponents a chance to knock him down.
Beating So Risque ($4.40) with a favorite by $4 under Alana Kelly, Bill The Boxer beat So Risque ($4.40) by 2½ the length with fellow favorite the other is Princess Annalise a little over two seconds away in third place.
Bill The Boxer has now raced six times, in five wins, with his only defeat being over the 1300m at Sandown back in January.
“I wish we hadn’t tried him that day because he’s undefeated now,” Calvin McEvoy said.
Instantly spelled out, Bill The Boxer returns to score a year-long victory on the synthetic track at Ballarat before a tight win at Swan Hill during their three-day Carnival in June.
McEvoy said he was impressed with what he saw from Bill The Boxer on Wednesday.
“I think he has to overcome a few more hurdles,” McEvoy said.
“Although we were relegated, we effectively increased the points with the race we found.
“He just kept raising the bar and I wanted a few more of him in the barn.”
McEvoy said he wasn’t sure where Bill The Boxer, who was once aspired to buy $22,000 at the Million Dollar Sale in Adelaide, could eventually go.
McEvoy said: ‘He’s grown into a big beautiful horse and I don’t know where his ceiling is.
“We are just racing step by step at this stage. I was just this morning going through the calendar and thinking about going up to 1400 meters later today, but I think we could be at 1200.
“He looks like a pretty efficient horse.”
