Saturday’s win would complete a major sweep of races after Peters and Williams’ won all three of the previous Group 1 races during the Perth Summer Carnival.
“I’m pretty sure we won’t be able to redo what we did last month,” Peters told RSN.
“Everybody’s home trophy is a special race for them, no matter where you are.
“I think one of the most popular races in this state is Broome Cup, then Kalgoorlie, Bunbury, everybody wants to win their Homeland Cup.”
Midnight Blue was the final third start after Stafford’s Lad and Pure Devotion over the 2200m at Ascot on December 22 with some questioning whether the five-year-old would run the entire trip.
Peters dismissed those suggestions indicating that Midnight Blue was bruised, having missed some work along with the lead race.
“And I wouldn’t be interested in him from a genealogical standpoint,” Peters said.
“He’s So You Think coming out of a Zabeel mare from a production family who stays at boarding houses.
“With Pure Devotion, we expected her to get through it, improve a bit from where she was, and she did.
“But he lost 4 kg (compared to his first) and the other two they lost one, so he met them three kilos better and he wasn’t beaten much.
“And he had problems.”
While Peters owns the top two places in the race, he said any race at Group 1 and Group 2 levels is always difficult to win.
