England’s first leg spinner Rehan Ahmed completed a 5-stroke on his Test debut in Karachi in the third and final Test of the series against Pakistan, becoming Youngest Test pitcher in history to score higher on debut. At 18 years and 126 days, Rehan became the youngest pitcher in Men’s Test history to hit 5 strokes on his debut. The foot spinner beat the record held by Pat Cummins when he picked up his fifth cane on day three of the Karachi Test. Cummins was 18 years and 193 days old when he won 6/79 over South Africa in 2011.
Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel are building a good partnership for Pakistan together as Rehan turns the advantage firmly to England with goals from Azam (54), Mohammad Rizwan (7) and Shakeel (53) in a round of six rounds.
He cleared the final two goals of Mohammad Wasim and Agha Salman to finish five on his debut as Pakistan were beaten 216 in their second half, targeting England as 167.
Prior to that, choosing to hit the stroke first, Pakistan scored 304 in their first inning, with 50 by captains Babar Azam (78) and Agha Salman (56). Spinner Jack Leach (4/140) is the pitcher’s choice for England.
England took a 50-point lead in the game and they were down 354 in the first half. Harry Brook (111) and Ben Foakes (64) are the top scorers for the away team. Nauman Ali (4/126) and Abrar Ahmed (4/150) are prominent Pakistani pitchers.
Rehan became the 53rd British pitcher to score a 5-stroke on his Test debut, an achievement that Will Jacks had achieved earlier in the series.
However, Rehan’s age makes him the youngest person to achieve the feat in his Test debut. Rehan previously became Britain’s youngest Test debutant when he was given a hat for the third Test of the series.
Earlier this year, Ahmed impressed at the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket Championship as Britain’s second-most catcher with 12 catches in four matches for an average of 12.58.
