Outerwear company Burton unveiled a second collaboration with artist, designer and visionary, Virgil Abloh on Tuesday.
Dubbed the ‘Burton c/o Virgil Abloh’ collection, it will launch later this month, with an exclusive £10 set to go up for digital auction on 15 March 2022, with proceeds Winners will be directed to the Virgil Abloh “Postmodern” Scholarship Fund. Following the auction will be the launch of a limited edition collection of skis, boots and laces that will be available for purchase on Burton.com starting March 22.
Virgil Abloh grew up skiing and recognized the influence the sport had on his outlook and career. He first teamed up with Burton in 2017 for a women’s outerwear collaboration with Burton and his Off-White brand. At the end of 2020, they connected again to embark on new projects.
Adrian Josef Margelist, Burton’s creative director said: “It is very important to Virgil that his next collaboration with Burton represents something, that it shares a larger message, so he created a manifesto to guide the collection,” said Adrian Josef Margelist, creative director at Burton.
“Everyone who worked on this project, from the ski designers and project managers to the racers at the photo shoot, remembered Virgil’s words. They have become our manifesto, our mantra, our driving force.”
Virgil Abloh’s Burton Manifesto is the graphic centerpiece of the exclusive black and white snowboards crafted in Vermont at Burton HQ, over the past two years.
“The product that by its existence is not only proof of the development of a subculture and sport but also becomes an artifact that proves that diversity in skiing is not just an idea. , which is actually happening, Burton and Virgil Abloh are interested in”, excerpt from Virgil Abloh Burton manifesto.
The limited-edition Manifesto snowboard will be auctioned for 48 hours at GiveSmart, where bids will start at $1,977—a nod to 1977, the year Burton was founded.
To celebrate Abloh’s life and legacy, Burton will also donate $300,000 over three years to activities aimed at increasing BIPOC’s representation in skiing.
