Via Dan Ambrose: Caleb ‘Sweethands’ Plant phoned Jermall Charlo on Sunday, telling him they could hold a fight together “end of the year” in 2022.
This is an odd time for Plant, 29, to call Charlo, as it was revealed this weekend that he is in talks with Canelo Alvarez to fight May 7.
Plant didn’t bring much benefit to the showdown against Charlo as he didn’t perform well in his recent loss to Canelo.
Caleb is the epitome of someone insecure with the conversation he started with Canelo in the ninth round, ask for authentic Mexican star about his boxing abilities.
Perhaps ‘Sweethands’ Plant has noticed all of the discussion on social media about Charlo being in discussions with Canelo about a big battle on PPV, and he wants to put his name out there to Try stepping in front of the Mexican star for yes. It was a very lucrative battle.
Caleb Plant wants the “End of the Year” war
Charlo would clearly prefer a fight with superstar Canelo Alvarez than fighting the one he just knocked out at Plant.
It’s not clear why the former 168-lb Plant IBF champion (21-1, 12 KOs) wants to wait until the end of 2022 before taking on the undefeated Jermall (32-0, 22 KOs), but it could be because he’s still is licking the wounds from his eleventh round knock-out loss to Canelo last year on November 6. Plant’s head is probably still aching from the knockout loss.

Well, if Canelo chooses not to take on Charlo, Plant might get lucky and meet the undefeated Jermall later this year.
Charlo can easily do Plant light hit, he is a pure boxer with little punching power. Jermall is a much bigger boxer than Plant, and he has great boxing skills when it comes to them.
Umbrella for factory ‘Sweethands’
For Plant, it will be another opportunity for a big payday after the match he just played against Canelo last November. If you’re Plant, it makes sense for him to call Jermall because he can make millions from this fight.
Plant just made $10 million + day salary for his battle with Canelo previous November. Getting another big payday will help Plant retire, as he’s not expected to win another world title.
Fighting Jermall will give ‘Sweethands’ Plant with a beautiful plant golden umbrella for his retirement to land lightly as he steps away from the sport. That may come sooner than you think.
With David Benavidez and David Morrell Jr emerging as the new stars of the 168-lb division, Plant is out of luck if he decides to pursue any belts with those around him.
