Canadian police fatally shoot man suspected of killing 3 men

MONTREAL – A man suspected of killing three people in the greater Montreal area was shot and killed by police on Thursday morning.

Quebec’s independent police watchdog said the Montreal police’s tactical unit was at a motel at around 7 a.m. in connection with the investigation into the three murders in Montreal and Laval during the summer. two days ago.

The watchdog said officers confronted a suspect with a gun. Shots were fired and the man was hit by at least one bullet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police operation followed a murder about 65 minutes apart and just a few miles apart on Tuesday night in two Montreal boroughs.

Police said they could not rule out that the victims were chosen at random.

One of the dead men has been identified as Andre Fernand Lemieux, 64, the father of Canadian professional boxer David Lemieux. The other victim is Mohamed Salah Belhaj, 48, an intervention worker at a local psychiatric hospital.

A senior Montreal police spokesman said Wednesday that investigators are certain a suspect is behind both killings and that they are waiting for ballistic evidence to confirm that.

Additionally, around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 22-year-old man was shot dead in Laval, just north of Montreal.
