Cancer: Fruit may protect against cancer by ‘slowing’ tumor growth

Cancer is the term used to describe a disease caused by the uncontrolled growth of damaged cells. The type of cancer is usually named after the organ affected, but some types can be more specific. Although there is no single cure for cancer, the consumption of plant foods has shown great promise in fighting cancer cells. Several studies have reported the beneficial effects of pears on various types of cancer.

Research shows that pears contain power-fighting compounds that could be instrumental in helping to prevent deadly cancers.

Pears are praised by nutritionists because they provide many beneficial plant compounds, such as catechins.

These powerful antioxidants work to lower blood pressure, improve blood vessel health, and prevent blood clots.

But studies show they may also protect against colorectal cancer and lung cancer.

In 2007, a study of 478,000 people found that eating more apples and pears was associated with a reduced risk of developing lung cancer.

Writing in the International Journal of Cancer, the study authors note: “The incidence of cancer is reduced with high consumption of apples and pears as well as other root vegetables.

“The results of this review add to evidence for a significant inverse association between vegetable consumption and lung cancer incidence in smokers.”

These protective effects are also attributed to the antioxidant anthocyanin, which is known to interfere with tumor formation and growth.

This is especially beneficial for colon health, as research has shown that the compound is highly effective at reducing the growth rate of cancer cells inside the digestive tract.

Furthermore, the vitamin C in the fruit fights free radicals that expose cells to oxidative stress and pave the way for chronic disease.

Leading nutritionist Rob Hobson, who teamed up with British Apples and Pears in November to raise awareness of the fruit’s benefits to men’s health, points to other health benefits. of pears.

He explains that pears provide enough fiber and other essential nutrients to support high cholesterol and heart disease.

“Pears are a delicious healthy snack and there are so many ways to sweeten them,” says Rob, “You may also want to add these ingredients along with soy milk for a reduced-fat smoothie.” cholesterol.

“It has never been more important to […] to ensure men are aware of the important role their lifestyle choices play in protecting them.

“There’s a lot of evidence that pears benefit men’s overall health, whether it’s for weight loss, whether it’s for weight loss, fiber intake or cholesterol.”

Symptoms of cancer:

But because there are more than 200 types of symptoms, it is difficult to generalize.

Common warning signs of various cancers include weight loss, fatigue, and unexplained pain.

Persistent lumps are another well-known sign that may be located in the armpits, stomach, groin, breasts, or testicles.

Cancer Research UK explains: “Some possible signs of cancer – like a tumor – are better known than others.

“But just because some symptoms are better known, doesn’t mean they’re more important or more likely to be cancer.”
