Writing in the International Journal of Cancer, the study authors note: “The incidence of cancer is reduced with high consumption of apples and pears as well as other root vegetables.

“The results of this review add to evidence for a significant inverse association between vegetable consumption and lung cancer incidence in smokers.”

These protective effects are also attributed to the antioxidant anthocyanin, which is known to interfere with tumor formation and growth.


This is especially beneficial for colon health, as research has shown that the compound is highly effective at reducing the growth rate of cancer cells inside the digestive tract.

Furthermore, the vitamin C in the fruit fights free radicals that expose cells to oxidative stress and pave the way for chronic disease.

Leading nutritionist Rob Hobson, who teamed up with British Apples and Pears in November to raise awareness of the fruit’s benefits to men’s health, points to other health benefits. of pears.
