CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh residents may have breathed a sigh of relief after the power workers’ strike was suspended on Wednesday, with consensus being made between striking power department employees and the authorities UT.
This comes after residents faced difficulties after Chandigarh electricity department employees launched a three-day strike against the Union Territory government’s decision to privatize power.

The Joint Action Committee and the Coordination Committee held a meeting on the subject and protested the administration’s adoption of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA).
Coordination Committee officials have confirmed that powerful employees are opposing the sale of a profit-making division to private hands.
Earlier, residents urged the government to solve the blackout problem in Chandigarh as soon as possible.
“Children can’t attend online classes because phones are out. Elderly people are facing trouble at night, we can’t even cook dinner and there are no street lights on. The government should find a solution,” Anita, a homemaker, told ANI.
