Jamal Edwards: Crowds gather in Acton for vigil

Chelsea supporters have paid their respects to Jamal Edwards MBE, following the tragic death of the 31-year-old.

Jamal, who founded the online music and culture platform SB.TV in 2006, passed away after a brief illness with inspirational tributes to the entrepreneur.

Edwards’ death caused shock and grief from Chelsea, club that he has supported throughout his life.

A statement from Chelseaaccompanied by a picture of Jamal at Stamford Bridge, which read: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jamal Edwards.

“An inspiration to many, we are honored that he is part of our Chelsea family.

Several members of Thomas Tuchel’s team paid tribute to Jamal, including Trevoh Chalobah, with whom he gave an interview to mark Black History Month last October.

They discussed the young star’s thoughts on being a role model for young black African players and on Sunday night posted a picture of the conversation with the caption: “Brother RIP Jamal Edwardslost words. ”

England and Chelsea star Mason Mount shared an image of Jamal wearing a Chelsea shirt and kissing the club’s badge, on his own Instagram story.

Mount accompanied the picture: “Always showed me so much love and support, proper Chels! You will truly miss, RIP Jamal Edwards.”

Chelsea supporters wanted to give a fitting tribute and decided to clap one minute after their 31 Champions League The last 16 matches against Lille at Stamford Bridge.

All four sides of the stadium stood up to greet the pioneer, who, along with many others, is credited with launching the careers of stars such as Ed Sheeran, Dave and Skepta.

Born in Luton before growing up on an estate in Acton, West London, he has made friends with some of the UK’s leading home-grown artists.

Jamal founded SB.TV at a time when the UK’s woeful scene was just starting to surface.

He received his MBE at the age of 23 for his activities for music and is also known for his philanthropy and founding a series of London youth clubs in 2020.
