Chelsea’s future is still very high as they are looking for a new owner and what happens next to the players is as important as what happens in the meeting room.

The Blues were held to a draw against the Spanish giants Real Madrid in UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and with it the opportunity to face former winger Eden Hazard.

But the prospect of the Belgian facing his former side was dealt a major blow following the defeat, Madrid have announced.

Meanwhile, four contenders to buy Chelsea have been listed as they enter the next phase of club buying.

Chelsea squad analysis

Chelsea have a number of players out of contract in the summer and with the current restrictions, the Blues will not be able to offer them a new contract.

For those who will stay next season, it is still possible that the new owner will keep an eye on the squad and choose to switch from players as part of a refresh of things at Stamford Bridge. While there will be players who are considered key members of the Chelsea dressing room, no matter who buys the club.

From goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and defender Marcos Alonso, to midfielder Ross Barkley and striker Timo Werner, every player will be judged.

Hazard’s Madrid Shot

Real Madrid star Eden Hazard will not face his old club Chelsea when the two teams meet in the UEFA Champions League.

The quarter-finals in April gave the Belgian the chance to face the team he spent seven years playing for, winning domestic and European leagues and cups. However, Hazard will not be available after the injury returned and forced surgery.

Hazard left Stamford Bridge to join Madrid in 2019 but has struggled to score and play due to injury.
