State after state, committees of the National Congress of Pradesh are passing resolutions calling for Rahul Gandhi to take over as party chief. To date, more than a dozen Parliamentary Committees of Pradesh have passed such resolutions. However, it is now almost clear that the Gandhi branch will sit out and allow a family loyalist – most likely Ashok Gehlot – to take over. For Gehlot, however, the polls represent a different challenge. Gehlot is almost unwilling to accept the Gandhi family’s diktat in the polls, and he is keen that he also be allowed to retain the position of Rajasthan CM. Gehlot probably knows all too well that despite being elevated to the top spot at 24 Akbar Road, he will be seen as a puppet, while Rahul Gandhi’s loyalists will continue to run the show. So Gehlot reluctantly gave CM’s position to Sachin Pilot’s rival, stating that he could take both positions. Gehlot states that the one-man-one-post rule is for nominated positions, not elected positions.
