NEW DELHI: Results of 875 people who were tested Covid in Parliament, has returned to positive, sources said on Sunday, days before the start of its Budget Session.
They said the data is from tests conducted since the start of the third wave of the pandemic until January 20.
The session is scheduled to begin January 31, and its first part will end on February 11.
Sources say 2,847 tests have been carried out in Parliament since the start of the third wave, and of these 875 have tested positive.
Out of the total number of tests, 915 were performed by Rajya Sabha Secretariat and 271 samples were found to be positive for the infection, they said.
According to sources, the session will be held according to Covid-related protocols.
In light of the sudden spike in Covid cases, a call must be made see Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha they will sit at the same time or in different shifts.
Rajya Sabha President and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also tested positive for Covid.
This is the second time Naidu has been infected with the virus.
“Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, who is in Hyderabad, tested positive for Covid today. He has decided to self-isolate for a week. He has advised all those in contact with him to self-isolate. Isolate yourself and get tested,” the vice president of secretariat tweeted. It looks like he won’t be participating in the Republic Day celebrations on Wednesday.
