Youngsters Sunayna Kuruvilla and Anahat Singh reached the previous quarter-finals of the women’s doubles event at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Thursday. Sunayna and 14-year-old Anahat beat Yeheni Kuruppu and Chani Asthma Sinaly 11-9, 11-4 in direct games in their opening match. The other Indian pair in the fight is Joshna Chinnappa and Dipika Pallikal, who will play their round of 16 match later in the day.
On the other hand, pairing Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal won the mixed doubles round of 16 against Wales, while Joshana Chinappa and Harinder Pal Sandhu lost in the mixed doubles round of 16 against Australia.
In the round of 32 men’s doubles, the pair Velavan Senthilkumar and Abhay Singh also won against the British Virgin Islands opponent.
