David Alaba scored with a stunning free-kick after coming on as a substitute, giving Real Madrid a 2-1 win over newly promoted Almeria en route. Alaba came on as a second-half substitute and scored a free-kick from goal, his first touch of the ball, after Luka Modric fouled just outside the box. It was an important win for the defending champions having played their first three games away at the Santiago Bernabeu, which is currently under renovation.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side led 0-1 at half time after Largie Ramazani scored in the past Thibaut Courtois at the sixth minute.
At one point, it seemed that Real Madrid might be about to receive a defeat.
However, Lucas Vazquez equalized in the 61st minute when he used the ball loosely in the penalty area to score.
Vazquez put the ball into the net in the first half but his effort was ruled offside.
Modric was then knocked out outside the box by Rodrigo Ely, and Alaba, who was heating up on the sidelines, took charge and shot past the Almeria keeper.
“We had a lot of shots on goal but when we got the first it made everything a lot easier,” Ancelotti said after the game.
“I’m happy with how the game went. We weren’t spectacular but there were a lot of things to take into account, like Wednesday’s game and the heat.”
