Dozens of people have been confirmed dead and many more are believed to be dead or trapped under the rubble of collapsed houses after a series of powerful earthquakes struck central Türkiye shortly after 4 a.m. Monday.
At least 34 buildings were destroyed and 5 people were killed in Osmaniye province alone, according to for its governor, with more casualties expected as rescuers search for possible survivors.
Another 15 people were killed and at least 16 buildings destroyed in Sanliurfa, according to initial information. estimate by the governor.
The governor of Malatya reports at least 140 buildings destroyed or badly damaged, with the bodies of 23 victims pulled from the rubble so far. According to Anadolu News, more than 420 people were injured differently across the province.
In Diyarbakir province, authorities confirmed six deaths and 79 injuries as of 7 a.m., with at least half a dozen buildings destroyed.
