The government of the national capital plans to install more than 5,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points on all major roads in the country over the next three years. The decision came after Delhi’s Vice Chairman of the Dialogue and Development Committee (DDCD) Jasmine Shah convened a meeting on the rollout of kerbside charging for trams in Delhi.

Kerbside charging is a globally emerging concept in which EVs can be charged while parked on the curb using street light poles or through dedicated charging posts.

The city government last month launched a three-year action plan for electric vehicle charging stations and infrastructure swaps, setting a target of 18,000 charging points. Officials have found that one of the key strategies to successfully accomplish this goal is to implement roadside charging, leveraging existing electrical and residential infrastructure to install charging points.

During the meeting it was decided that roadside toll collection would utilize lampposts and substation space with or near street parking locations. Initially, the 100 kerbside charger will be evenly spread across all three chargers in a test project. The pilot will be designed with support from DDC and discoms will take the lead in installing roadside chargers for people with disabilities.

The Kerbside toll feature will provide convenient options for priority segment vehicles including two-wheelers and three-wheelers, and will also play an important role for parking-poor neighborhoods. Nominated.

Analysts will first identify the road segments where this pilot project could be initiated with the deployment of 100 EV chargers. Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) will be the state focal point operating the complete pilot program alongside the state EV umbrella under the Ministry of Transport. “Delhi will take the lead in establishing kerbside charging facilities for electric vehicles on all major roads,” said Shah.
