Via Sam Volz: Demetrius ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade took to social media to inform his fans to stay calm following his decision to withdraw from the match against Zach Parker.
Andrade (31-0.19 KOs) and Parker are expected to fight for the interim super-middleweight WBO belt. However, Andrade chose to withdraw from the fight, which makes sense given that he would not receive a large sum of money for the fight.
Former double world champion Andrade is rumored to be in for a much bigger fight than the Parker clash at 168. It’s unclear who Andrade’s opponent will be, but it would make sense for him to go head to head. with David Benavidez or the WBA. Super-middleweight champion David Morrell.
“Boo Boo Andrade: We’re just getting started. Keep calm🤫😏 #itsmeagain @velozboxing85 @ddelgado7,” said Demetrius Andrade Instagram.
Andrade wants to fight Parker for the mandatory 168-lb WBO belt for undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. However, that will not happen now.
But even if Andrade did fight and beat Parker, Canelo would likely leave his WBO title blank to avoid fighting him. Canelo hasn’t shown any interest in fighting Andrade in the past, and that’s not something that will change if he becomes his compulsion to the World Boxing Organization.
Andrade recently vacated his WBO middleweight belt instead of defending against Janibek Alimkhanuly. It will be a tougher fight than it deserves for 34-year-old Demetrius.
Andrade won the 160-lb WBO title in 2018, hoping that he can use the belt to land a lucrative matchup against Canelo, Gennadiy Golovkin and Jermall Charlo.
Unfortunately for Demetrius, none of those fighters showed any interest in fighting him, and he soon discovered that he was no better at 160 than when he held the WBA & WBO 154 belts- lb.
Andrade is this era version of Paul Williams. Like Williams, Andrade was shunned by the top boxers at 154 and 160. By moving up to 168, Andrade hoped he could put himself in a position to force Canelo to fight him, but it didn’t look like it. promise. It’s more likely Andrade will need to settle the fights against Benavidez and Morrell than get shot at Canelo.
