Diego Forlan gave his verdict on tonight’s showdown between Manchester United and Atlético Madrid.

The Uruguayan legend is remembered by everyone at both clubs, although his goalscoring streak only started to peak when he was in Spain.

But despite enjoying his time at Madrid more, he did put the Rojiblancos through a tough time against the Reds.

United have traveled to Spain to take on Atletico Madrid at their beautiful Wanda Metropolitano football stadium tonight but the La Liga giants have had a difficult season.

Under Diego SimeoneTheir strong resilience was broken in search of a new extension style that simply did not click.

And Forlan calculates Ralf Rangnick will be able to uncover holes in Atletico’s team after the recent win over Leeds United and Brighton.

He told Marca: “Manchester has players who have a lot of variation, speed and like one-on-one.

“Atletico Madrid are not at their best at the moment, so they will have to watch out for those counter-attacks.

“If it comes to a game where Manchester finds that void and such long periods, Atletico could be in for a tough spot.

“Atletico will have to keep lanes together to have a chance of winning the game. It was a good game for both coaches. “

Atletico Madrid have struggled this season

Atletico are 5th in La Liga after winning last year and their defensive record is astounding.

Jan Oblak, once considered the best player in Europe, has fallen dramatically and they have conceded 34 times in 25 games at the tournament.

That’s the most of the top 10, which is astounding considering the solid defence Simeone has cultivated during his eight years at the club.

There has been some discussion as to whether the fiery Argentinian could soon leave Madrid – a view that was easily refuted just a few months ago.

As for United, although their form has improved somewhat, they always seem to be on the cusp of a crisis.

Rangnick has had a number of problems since taking over on an interim basis from Ole Gunnar Solskjaerwho was fired in November.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo antics in Champions League have kept United afloat while winning the competition would be a big hit for the club.

The Reds haven’t won the league since 2008 when they beat Chelsea on the penalty spot in the final but since then it has been difficult for United fans to watch.
