If you’re working with PDFs on a regular basis, it’s important to know about the common mistakes people make when editing these files. That way, you can avoid making those same mistakes again in the future.

Make Sure Everything Is Spellchecked

But if you want to make sure your PDF is as error-free as possible, it’s important to run a spellcheck yourself. 

If you’re working with a large document, it’s easy to miss a few spelling errors. 

Watch Out For Incorrect Collation

Collation is the sequence of a document, but it’s also a term that refers to the order of pages in a book or a PDF. You should make sure that the pages are in the correct order for the PDF. 

You might want to include an index or table of contents if your document has many pages. If you’re putting together a long report, it’s easy to accidentally put the pages in the wrong order. 

So, be careful to make sure the pages are in the correct order before sending your PDF to your editor. 

Don’t Merge Files Together That Should Be Separate

You might want to include a few different documents in your PDF, but you don’t want to include everything. For example, you might have a sales pitch and a contract in the same PDF file. 

If you include these documents together in one file, you’ll end up with a messy PDF. Make sure to keep the sales pitch and the contract in separate files. When you’re ready to put the files together using a PDF editor and make sure they are in the correct order. 

Once they’re in the right order, you can select both files and click the Merge icon in your software. 

Don’t Rotate Shapes Or Images Unless You Have To

Rotating images and shapes can be helpful if you’re creating a presentation or infographic. But if you’re simply creating a PDF, you don’t need to rotate any of your shapes or images. 

When you rotate an image or shape in a PDF, it will be rotated in the reader’s software, too. If the reader is using different software, they won’t be able to view the image or shape at all.  

Don’t Forget To Lock Shapes Or Images Before Merging Files Together

If you want to merge a few files together, you can do so by selecting the files and then clicking the Merge icon. You should make sure that you lock any images or shapes in your files before merging them together. 

Otherwise, they will be deleted when you merge the files together. You can lock images or shapes by clicking the Lock icon in the Properties tab. This will keep the images from being deleted when you merge the files together.
