Elon Musk said Friday that the “legacy blue checkmark” on Twitter, the blue checkmark on verified handles that haven’t registered Twitter Blue, will be removed soon.

Musk has announced that Twitter will remove the blue checkmarks previously provided to users to indicate “active, notable, and authenticated accounts of public interest” that have been held by the platform. Verification.

Musk, in response to a tweet questioning Twitter’s paid subscription model, said: “The old blue checks will be cleared soon. Those are really corrupt checks.”

Twitter Blue was launched in India on Thursday. The monthly fee for iOS and Android users in India is Rs 900 while the fee has been kept as low as Rs 650 per month for web.

“Blue registrants with a verified phone number will receive a blue checkmark upon approval,” Twitter said.

Last year, Musk announced that Twitter Blue will cost 8 USD (about 660 Rupees) per month, but it will be priced differently for different markets.

The Tesla and SpaceX chief defended the much-criticized paid verification plan by saying the blue check mark would be a “great leveling tool”.

“Widespread verification will democratize journalism and empower the voice of the people,” he wrote on Twitter.

However, the plan backfired when the verified people changed their usernames to ‘Elon Musk’ to test the new Twitter owner, who describes himself as “a totalitarian on the subject. freedom of speech”.
