England Head Coach Chris Silverwood insisted there were “positives” his team could take from their defeat in the third game. Ash Test against Australia.

He fell on a half-time loss at the MCG, being bowled for just 68 on Tuesday to lose the series 3-0 with two Tests still to play.

Talking to BT Sport After the loss, Silverwood said: “We had a nice honest chat after the Final Test, we just had to put those performances together and figure out how to repel the attack and score the score of this bowling.

“Yesterday we had a bit of a hiatus in the morning and I think the way they applied on the field and attacked the bowling and brought us back into this game was a credit to them.

“The way we caught in the last innings was also good and I think this will have positive sides.

“I have to credit our boys for the way they pushed back yesterday, but we have to figure out how to score against this attack.”

With two tests left in the series, Silverwood added that England will be looking to support some of their young players to “get out on the pitch and show what they can do”.

“We wanted to take something away from this series and we wanted to come back and compete in the last two Tests,” he said.

“We have some world-class players and some young players who are learning continuously on the job.

“What we have to do is try and give them confidence, we know they are capable and we will support them.

“We have to give them a chance to come out and show what they can do in the last two Tests.”
