Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 184,698 F-150 2021-2022 vehicles because of transmission shaft problems. Specifically, underbody noise and heat insulation can loosen and come into contact with the aluminum drive shaft, which can damage the drive shaft and cause it to break.
This is a dangerous situation as a broken drive shaft can cause loss of drive power or loss of vehicle control if the drive shaft comes into contact with the ground. In addition, unintentional movement may occur while parked if the parking brake is not engaged. Any of these situations can increase the likelihood of a problem occurring.
To fix the problem, dealers will check and repair the drive shaft when necessary, and install the undercarriage insulators properly, free of charge to the vehicle owner.
Owner notice letters will be mailed on January 31, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332. Ford’s reference number for this recall is 21S56.
