Ford tries to combat F-150 Lightning by banning resale

Ford is flooded with orders for F-150 Lightningand it is taking special steps to ensure the electric pickup reaches honest buyers with kindness. release report Ford is now give resellers have the option to ban customers from reselling Lightning for up to one year after purchase. As the documentation (since pulled) on the F-150 Gen 14 forums revealed, the dealer can “apply for a restraining order” to block the transfer of title or even demand payment for the F-150 Gen 14. “all value” is generated from the sale.

The automaker is also punishing a “limited number” of dealers who allegedly violated terms of sale and service by forcing customers to pay more than Ford requested. It’s not clear what those payments were, although this suggests they are more than the price hikes you’d normally see when cars are scarce or in high demand.

This non-resale clause is not new to the automotive world. Ford used it to make sure their GT supercars reach their true owners. Still, it’s a rarity for EVs – especially for relatively popular vehicles like the F-150 Lighting. Of course, this reflects Lightning’s popularity, but it could also be crucial for Ford. Scaling has affected access to many other technology products, such as game driver and video card – Ford probably didn’t want those opportunists to spoil the launch of such an important vehicle, especially with Chevy, Rivian and Tesla pursue many of the same customers.
