Sam Freedman says Open Minded could step into company shares after a clear win

The five-year-old Open Minded is returning to winning streak after defeating Cameron Rose Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield.

A large and vocal ownership group and co-trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman will now hope it can rival its four-race winning streak since early 2021.

Starting at Caulfield last January, Open Minded ($5) then together won at Sale, Moonee Valley and again at Caulfield and all shorter distances.

However, in 2022 the bets can be increased after winning this 84 Benchmark event.

“His ratings are going up and he’s one of those very consistent horses,” said Sam Freedman.

“And he is a dream for the owners.

“1400 is what we wanted to try this preparation on because his ratings just went up a bit and the sprinters were a bit too sharp for him.

“He ticked that box today and he’s got a great record at Caulfield.”

The Open Minded win has lifted his Caulfield record to four wins in multiple starts on the course and he is likely to return January 26 in the Listed company over the 1400 metres.

“The John Dillon shares on Australia Day is a possibility – his rating will go up and he may have won too far, so we’ll have to raise this again,” Freedman said.

“He’s earned his ratings, he keeps winning.”

Open Minded won against Score ($12) by three points, and Polanco ($21) took third place.

This victory recorded a brace for the Freedman stability bike and also for the three-kilogram cyclist Alana Kelly.
