French President Emmanuel Macron’s choice of footwear during a trip to London ahead of the queen’s funeral has sparked a wave of comments – and misinformation – online.
The 44-year-old leader was photographed Sunday walking in front of Westminster Hall with his wife Brigitte, where the late British sovereign is lying in state ahead of her funeral on Monday.
Instead of his usual suit and formal black leather shoes, Macron is pictured looking unusually casual, wearing a pair of sunglasses and – to the amazement of some observers – aqua blue train riders sea.

Fueled by critical comments online, French radio channel RMC hosted a debate Monday over whether the sight of the president wearing streetwear on such an occasion was “shocking”. , with host Estelle Denis insisting that there is a “dress code to respect”.
Le Figaro newspaper called them “trainers of discord”.
Other media have sought to correct a growing narrative on social media, fanned by far-right politicians and critics of the president, that Macron wore the coach for the funeral. Queen’s, takes place on Monday.
“No, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron did not pay their respects to the queen in coaches,” said an article from the national TF1 channel.
By the time the French leader and his wife paid their respects before the coffin on Sunday, both had changed into more formal attire, with Macron in a black suit and black tie.
The couple dressed similarly for the state funeral at Westminster Abbey, where they arrived on a bus with other leaders.
However, the photos drew attention to Macron’s expensive hobby – a potential liability for a man who was derided by critics as “the president of the rich” and, after a season summer that he was photographed with a jet ski during his vacation.
According to Le Figaro, the shoes are made by French haute couture brand JM Weston and sell for 570 euros ($570) a pair.
