Former Indian Opener and MP BJP Gautam Gambhir has spoken out against representation advertising in Indian cricket. Speaking at an event with The Indian ExpressGambhir said that if the president of BCCI Sourav Ganguly was confirming a fantasy tournament platformer the other players were unstoppable from following suit.
“If the BCCI president (Ganguly) is doing it, you can’t expect other players not to do it. If he says that no one is allowed to do that, I think everyone should follow that… It has to come from the beginning. Or should we ban this altogether in India. It cannot be a state. And no one is allowed to endorse it,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir also said that most of the funding in IPL these days comes from fantasy game platforms and it will take a collective will from the board to stop the threat of alternative advertising.
“In the IPL, most of the endorsements and sponsorships are from fantasy league games like Dream 11. It has to be a collective decision from BCCI whether we should allow this to happen,” he said. said more.
Gambhir also spoke on a wide range of topics at the event, including India’s “hero-worshipping” culture.
