Berlin:
A court spokesman said a teenager was given a two-year suspended prison sentence in Germany on Friday for planning a deadly attack on a school he attended.
The 17-year-old was found guilty of planning to commit a serious act of violence endangering the state, said a spokesman for the higher district court in Duesseldorf.
German prosecutors earlier said the teenager, named Jeremy R., planned a “right-wing extremist motivated attack” on May 13, 2022.
The massacre with explosives and other weapons was only narrowly prevented when he was arrested the day before.
“Teachers and a large number of students were killed” in the attack, prosecutors said.
Jeremy R., 16 years old at the time of his arrest, is said to have purchased the materials needed to assemble the pipe bombs and obtained information on the internet on how to make them.
Prosecutors said he also assembled weapons including knives, brass fists, machetes, crossbows and arrows as well as firearms.
