Google now offers a cheaper 1080p version of Chromecast with Google TV

Confirm rumorGoogle revealed Chromecast with Google TV (HD) device provide features from 4K model $50 for significantly less than $30. Unlike the original $35 Chromecast, it comes with a remote that eliminates the need to use a smartphone, although you can also control it with a mobile device. The other important feature is right there in the name – 1080p resolution is lower, despite HDR support.

The new device looks exactly like the 4K model, with an oval shape, a short HDMI cable, and a USB-C input. As before, it comes with all the popular streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max, Prime Video, YouTube and others. It also supports Stadia games, and of course, you can cast compatible Android and iOS apps or mirror your Chrome browser tabs.

There’s a Google Assistant button on the remote for programming control, asking questions, or controlling connected devices in the smart home. Alternatively, it can be grouped with Nest speakers for multi-room playback around the house through music apps like Spotify, Pandora, and YouTube Music.

Back in January, it was rumor that the device can decode high-quality, low-bandwidth AV1 files (4K models don’t currently support that), but there’s no word on that yet. It is bound to attract buyers on a budget, but many have expected instead, a faster 4K model with more memory. The new Chromecast with Google TV (HD) is Available now for $30.
