Google says lawsuit against it ‘misses the law and the facts’

Google says the lawsuit against it is an omission of the law and facts

WASHINGTON: Alphabet Inc’s Google asked a federal judge on Friday to overrule the majority Antitrust lawsuits filed by Texas and other states accuse the search giant of abusing its dominant position in the online advertising market.

Google said in its court filings that the states did not show that they were illegally working with Facebook, for now. Meta, to combat “headline bidding,” a technology publishers have developed to make more money from ads placed on their sites. Facebook is not a defendant in the lawsuit.

The states also allege that Google used at least three programs to manipulate ad auctions to coerce advertisers and publishers into using Google’s tools.

Google responded that the states had a “collection of complaints” but no evidence of wrongdoing. On some of the allegations, Google says the states have waited too long to file their lawsuits.

The company said in its filing.

Google has asked to dismiss four of the six counts with prejudice, meaning it can’t be brought back to the same court.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said they would continue the fight. “The company whose motto used to be ‘Don’t be evil,’ now asks the world to examine their egregious abuses of monopoly and see no evil, hear no evil and do not speak evil,” he said in a statement.

The Texas lawsuit, which has two other claims based on state law and brought against Google, was upheld in September. The search giant didn’t ask for them to be fired on Friday but could in future.

The lawsuit is part of a long list of antitrust investigations and federal and state lawsuits against Big technology communication.
