Guardians of the Galaxy Episode 3 has an emotional first trailer

Marvel has released the first trailer for the final film in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Episode 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023 – and based on the trailer, it looks like the series will explore the origins of Rocket Raccoon and the return of the Gamora character played by Zoe Saldaña.

The trailer also gives us our first look at Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolution as the main villain, and new MCU character Will Poulter as Adam Warlock – an all-powerful man-made created to destroy the universe. This trailer debuted at Comic-Con back in July, but both Gunn and Marvel decided together that while it was ready for an IRL screening, it wasn’t quite suitable for posting online. It’s been five years since Guardians 2 – which the trailer mentions right out of the gate, with Star-Lord saying, “We’ve been gone for quite a while.” However, some of the film’s characters have appeared in other Marvel films since then, and as a group appeared in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Taika’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Earlier this year, Gunn announced that Guardians 3 would end the trilogy and was his last film with the franchise and the cast.
