Helen Skelton had expressed a desire to compete on ITV’s Dancing On Ice but she signed up for the BBC’s rival show instead.
The Countryfile presenter, 39, was the last celebrity contestant confirmed to join the series after last-minute registration.
Speaking before her role in Serious was announced, Helen told The Sun: ‘I love doing anything that challenges me.’

Helen also explained: ‘I have no career plan and never have. I try not to worry about the future. I just say yes to the food on the table and the smile on my face. ‘

Helen – who was tipped to be on the BBC’s dance show – said when the news was first announced: ‘I’m really excited to be going on an exciting adventure. My family and friends have always loved the show and can’t wait for me to start. ‘
In her first BBC Radio 5 show since the announcement, Helen criticized her dancing skills but explained how she can’t wait to learn.
Helen tells listeners: ‘I can’t decide if it’s the best or worst thing I’ve agreed to and it hasn’t started yet!’
She went on to explain that she only signed up a few days ago: ‘What worries me… I agreed to it a few days ago and people keep saying, ‘Can you dance? ‘ and I said no because learning to dance isn’t the point? ‘

Talking about the glamorous side of Seriously, she said: ‘Most moms go to work and any mom who gets a chance to work puts on makeup, makes tea and learns something fun.. I think it’s a gift, it’s not.’ t it? ‘
Former serious winner Ore Oduba joined the show as the pair discussed how demanding the dance performance was, while she predicted Helen would go away with the glitter trophy.
The mother-of-three began her television career in children’s television, presenting Newsround and Blue Peter on the BBC.
While performing Blue Peter for 5 years, she took on some incredible challenges, including completing the Namibia Ultra Marathon, cycling to the South Pole, and kayaking over 2018 miles down the Amazon River.
Since then she has presented programs on various channels including Countryfile, several major sporting events for BBC Sport, ITV’s Lorraine, BT Sport’s FA Women’s Super League.
She has also hosted Channel 4’s Super League coverage and Inside The Superbrands alongside the highly successful On The Farm series for Channel 5 and is a regular on ITV Tonight.

Helen is said to feel ‘bewildered’ by the breakdown of her marriage, with a source close to the couple telling MailOnline: ‘Helen is absolutely devastated.’
The couple were formerly parents to young sons Ernie, six, Louis, five, and daughter Elsie Kate, seven months.
