Hogwarts Legacy – All Kinds of Puzzles and Solutions

Hogwarts Heritage completely embrace the mystery of Hogwarts Castle and its surroundings by filling the world with various puzzles. While not every repetitive puzzle is complicated to complete, some puzzles can be a bit confusing if you’re not sure which spell to cast. Some of them are even locked until you get further in the story, so you may have found one of these puzzles, but haven’t been able to complete it. Here are all the recurring puzzles in the Hogwarts Legacy and how to complete them.
mirror

Moth Mirrors are blank metal mirrors with a bunch of moth ornaments around the edges. To complete these puzzles, you must use Lumos on the mirror. This will reveal another location in the mirror, usually somewhere nearby. You have to navigate to the area shown in the image where you will find a moth. If Lumos is still active, the caterpillar will follow you. Return it to the mirror and cancel the Lumos so that the butterfly returns to the mirror, completing the puzzle.
Icon door

The iconic door features a series of images around the door frame and two math puzzles on the door itself, which are revealed when you interact with the door. To unlock the door, you have to find two spinning question marks nearby and rotate them for the right animal to solve the math questions, unlock the door. Ball hug statue

The statue holding the ball is one of the simpler puzzles found around Hogwarts Castle. You just need to use Leviosa on it to get the Field Guide page, after which the statue will disappear.
Merlin’s Trail

The Trails of Merlin is a special puzzle, marked by a series of swirling rocks on the ground. You must use the Mallowsweet Card to start each puzzle. Once activated, you are looking around to find a set of stone pillars or structures in the nearby area. What you need to do with the columns and how many columns vary from puzzle to puzzle. The first person you meet (via the story quest) requires you to use Incendio on three pillars. The second one I found required me to destroy the bowls on top of about ten pillars with a basic attack. The third one I found required me to Accio a set of balls from a hidden spot to a circle of stones on the ground, so each will be different. done a lot Trails of Merlin will increase the amount of gear you can carryquite limited at the start of the game.
pyre

Also, around the castle, you can find unlit standing pyrems that look like other vertical pyrems found around the castle. If you use Incendio on them, they will light up and reward a page of field instructions. They also occasionally spawn on walls, outside of Incendio’s range. For these, you’ll need Confringo, which will light the pyre and spawn a field guide page that you’ll need Accio to collect.
thoracic eyeball

Another quick puzzle found around Hogwarts, the Eyeball Chest requires you to use stealth, specifically Disillusionment to reach and open the chest. For the locations of all the Eyeball Chests, check out ours Hogwarts Castle Guide and ours Hogsmeade Eyeball Chest Guide.
lock

There are many common locks found in Hogwarts and the surrounding areas. To unlock the most basic locks, you need to unlock the Alohomora spell. With that spell, you’ll enter a padlock-picking mini-game where you need to align the red spark with the red arrow, before repeating it with the green spark and green arrow. For more information on when you unlock Alohomora and how to upgrade spells, check out our Instructions on how to unlock doors and chests.
Goddess statue

These figurines of a bird-like creature embracing the moon aren’t exactly a puzzle, but you might have noticed a few and been confused as to what they are, as they’re obviously interactive. Okay. These can be collected, but only at night and only after starting the quest “The Caretaker’s Moon Lament,” At that point you can start collecting them. If you encounter one during the day, open the map and choose to time it to night, so you can collect it without leaving or waiting for it to naturally become night. Collect enough and you can upgrade Alohomora to choose a higher level key. For help finding these statues, see Demiguise Statue Location Guide.
Traces of Ancient Magic

Traces of ancient magic have been found in the wilderness around Hogwarts and similar to Merlin’s Trials, these puzzles can vary in solution. The main solution is that after interacting with Ancient Magic Traces, three silver balls containing ancient magic will appear in a nearby area, with vague smoke lines indicating each person’s location. All you need to do is collect all three balls, they will complete the mission. Most of these are centered around small buildings, where you’ll need to go through the building. Collecting enough of these will increase your Ancient Magic meter, giving you an edge in combat.
