The House Select Committee on January 6 has a window into former President Donald Trump’s motorcade on the day of the US Capitol attack, interviewed on Friday, the Secret Service agent who sat on car lead on January 6 and scheduled testimony from the driver of president Trump multiple sources told CNN.

Friday’s interview, which has not been previously reported, is the fourth with Secret Service agents and officials in five days as the panel continues. expand its focus on the agency.

The quick clip of the interviews underscores the committee’s interest in finding out what happens after Trump leaves the Ellipse rally on January 6, 2021, and departs for the White House. Several witnesses had previously told the committee that Trump angrily asked to come to the Capitol, but his Secret Service details refused to give him.

The names of representatives from the lead convoy testifying Friday and the driver of Trump’s SUV, who was in the back of the lead vehicle, have yet to be released publicly.

CNN previously reported The committee wants to speak to at least half a dozen Secret Service witnesses. Just this week, the panel interviewed the one-time head of security details of former Vice President Mike Pence, Tim Giebels, former Secret Service John Gutsmiedl, and agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

CNN has reached out to the Secret Service for comment. The House Select Committee declined to comment.

The committee has been investigating Trump’s behavior in the president’s SUV on the day of the Capitol attack for several months.

Former White House staffer Cassidy Hutchinson testified publicly on June 28 that former Assistant Secret Service Director Tony Ornato, who was in the car with Trump, told her that Trump was so angry that he raised his hand. to the front of the car to grab the steering wheel. wheel with one hand and lunged at Robert Engel, his agent that day, with the other.

“The president reached his hand toward the front of the car to grab the steering wheel. Mr. Engel took his arm, saying ‘Sir; You need to take your hands off the steering wheel. We’re going back to the West Wing. We’re not going to the Capitol. ‘ Mr. Trump then used his free hand to lunge towards Bobby Engel,” Hutchinson testified.

Hutchinson said Ornato told her the story of Trump being “angry” back into his White House office later that day in Engel’s presence. She said Engel “did not correct or disagree with any part of the story.”

Both Ornato, who briefly left the agency to serve as Trump’s deputy chief of staff, and Engel met with the committee prior to Hutchinson’s testimony. The committee has said it wants to hear from both again.

Ornato’s attorney, Kate Driscoll, told CNN last week: “Mr. Ornato continues to cooperate with the commission in its investigation.”

The committee has not yet interviewed the driver of Trump’s presidential car.

CNN previously reported that a police officer in Washington, DC corroborated with the committee details regarding a heated exchange Trump had with Secret Service details when he was told that he couldn’t go to the Capitol after his rally. According to the source, the Metropolitan Police Department officer was in the convoy with the Secret Service for Trump on January 6.

The committee may also ask Secret Service witnesses about any attempt to determine whether it is possible to bring Trump to the Capitol.

Guglielmi told CNN in June that after Trump urged his supporters to march with him to the Capitol during his January 6 speech, the agency asked the Metropolitan Police Department to find out. see if a motorcycling route is possible.

“The Secret Service agent tasked with detailing the President has told administration officials that the proposed travel plan to visit the Capitol on January 6 would not be viable,” Guglielmi said.
