How Jensen Acrum chose Soldier Boy’s vocals for The Boys

With guests of Seth Rogen, Friday episode of Boys final liberated soldier boy In the world. So far, he hasn’t done too much but walk around, wreak havoc on his surroundings, or take revenge on old flames. But in typical Jensen Acrum fashion, he still stands out. If you don’t admire the hair (cut first or cut later; that’s between you and your god) you’re hearing his voice, with that age-old boom.

The voice of the soldier boy not far from Acker’s usual low voice. But Soldier Boy certainly speaks with remarkable influence; it was so confident, resounding even when he didn’t say it out loud. Sound quality is Acker said a choice he made after doing some research for the role.

“I went back and I actually got a list of old movies and old actors from […] mostly the ’50s and ’60s. And I’ve seen some of those — not even movies, but like interviews actors would do about their movies,” Acrum told Polygon. Although Acker emphasized that he wasn’t trying to copy any particular person, he did point out a number of names he came up with. when he asked about the era: Robert Mitchum, Edward G. Robinsonand Lee Marvin.

“There was just another rhythm they talked about back then. And I’m not necessarily trying to copy that, but I just let it affect the way I speak as Soldier Boy a little. ”

The result is a man who immediately sounds as if he has been solicited from the past. He talks methodically, but not in a robotic way, arrogant and commanding even when he’s talking (maybe) the most bullshit you’ve heard from a superhero. Ever wanted to hear Robert Mitchum rapping off beat on a variety show dressed as Captain America? Of course you have.

Acker is no stranger to modifying his voice for a role. While on SupernaturalYoke talk about how he lowered his voice to play Dean, specifically to emulate Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who played his father on the show). It was a choice he admittedly regretted making Supernaturallong tenure of.

Either way, the voice Aprising uses for Soldier Boy clearly conveys how he assumes dominance, whether compared to the Payback members or the cultural fervor (contemporary) with him). Of course, that predominance has only lasted so far – there are still five episodes of Boys season 3, and it’s likely he’ll meet his match.

Not to mention Soldier Boy is navigating a 2020s world where he no longer lives the way he once did. Not only Oprah Winfrey Program came and went since Soldier Boy went missing, but there was another Soulja Boy who managed to make his way to the top of the zeitgeist momentarily. Of course, whether or not the Soulja Boy in the universe will change his name (or whether his name will be an ironic nod of a long-dead superhero), we still don’t know. But suffice it to say: It won’t just take some explosive power to bring Soldier Boy back to the top.
