Always add something else to your plate

You’ve got your main meal ready to go, great. Now is the time to add something else to the plate just to give you something different to eat today. A small handful of chickpeas, a roasted pepper, a few fried mushrooms – it all counts. If you’re not sure what to add, choose whatever you can add add a little taste that you don’t normally eat.

Don’t be afraid of unusual combinations

Unusual food combinations can be intimidating. You might be thinking to yourself, ‘I don’t mean to pair these’, but if you want to, go ahead and give it a try! You can find a new dish you love and when you’re eating in your own home, that shouldn’t be a problem. Fries and chocolate? Great!

Learn how to use spices and herbs

Herbs and spices add a lot to a dish, even if the basic ingredients of the meal are just that: basic. You can take a chicken breast and turn it into a gourmet 5-star dish with just a little spice and a little topping when you’re done.

Commit to this approach if you don’t have the budget to change your diet right now. You can find a great recipe for roasted chicken here and then take it to the next level using the rubbed herb blend 5 minutes before the tray is put in the oven.

Cook in bulk and freeze for later use

One of the biggest reasons one’s diet becomes ‘same’ is due to lack of time and energy. You can’t be bothered to spend time cooking for yourself, using lots of different, flavorful ingredients, when you’ve worked all day and still have to clean the house!

So why not cook a bunch of things now and then put them in the freezer? Meal prep, in other words, so you don’t have to put any effort into finding a meal and microwaving it? This is a sustainable way to change up your diet in the long run and will help you feel more energetic during mealtimes.

Remember, if you need a little more variety in your meals, this is the way to start!
