An Egyptian cargo ship capsized in Turkey, sending several containers into the sea. A video circulating on social media shows the moment the ship, the Sea Eagle, capsized and sank. It was docked at the Turkish port of Iskenderum and the unloading of the containers was ongoing when the incident happened, according to the report. TradeWinds, a website that reports on shipping news. The incident happened on Saturday, the agency said, adding that the ship was built in 1984.
Video of the incident on Reddit shows a port forklift unloading a container when the 3120 DWT cargo ship rammed past. Those standing near the ship immediately moved away after hearing the whistle.
The ship quickly sank in the water, shocking the crew and the cargo unloader.
Later Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure say on Twitter Twenty-four containers were lost from the Togo-flagged vessel and a small oil leak was also discovered.
Fortunately, all crew members were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.
The government later released a statement, in which it said the ship was experiencing stability problems and that efforts to balance it were fruitless, according to another agency. Captain Wood.
The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by port authorities in Turkey. Meanwhile, the ship’s fuel unloading and container loading operations are currently underway.
The ship arrived at Iskenderum from Mersin, also in Turkey, on September 17. According to the crew, all systems on board were operating normally up to that point.
