Hundreds of elephants, zebras die as Kenya weathers drought

NAIROBI, Kenya – Hundreds of animals, including endangered Grevy elephants and zebras, have died in wildlife sanctuaries in Kenya during the worst drought in East Africa in decades, according to a report released on Friday.

The Kenya Wildlife Service and other agencies have recorded the deaths of 205 elephants, 512 wildebeest, 381 common zebras, 51 buffaloes, 49 Grevy zebras and 12 giraffes. over the past nine months, the report states.
