The world’s leading T20I polishing machine Suryakumar Yadav seem to be immune to pressure. In fact, he likes to put himself under pressure when in pre-match training mode.
Yadav’s 360-degree skills once again steal the thunder during Saturday’s T20 international tournament. His third century in the format, a 51 112 ball that didn’t come out, had given India a straight win in the previous 91 runs. Sri Lanka in the third T20I and decided in Rajkot.
“It’s really important to put pressure on yourself when you’re preparing for the game. The more pressure you put on, the better you can play. There’s a lot of hard work involved. Some practice sessions. Quality is also involved,” Yadav said after his match knock-out.
India posted 228/5 and then bowling Sri Lanka with a score of 137.
Surya rounds were full of power, consisting of nine sixths and seven fourths, and his preference for six rounds behind the racquet was further fueled by the short boundaries in that part of the ground.
“The back line is 59-60m so I try to cross them. There are a few predefined shots, but you also have to be ready for the others,” he said.
Yadav says the freedom he received from head coach Rahul Dravid helps him play his natural freestyle play.
“Most of the time I try to find space and take advantage of the pitch. Dravid let me enjoy and told me to express myself,” Yadav said.
In seven months, Yadav won three centuries of white ball in the shortest form, and also became the fastest 1500 T20I runner in terms of tackles.
In the 45 T20I, the Mumbai-born cricketer scored 1578 runs with an average of 46.41 and a hit rate of 180.34 with three hundred 13 half-century bearing his name.
“I was really pleased with how the rounds went,” added Yadav. “A few of my shots were pre-determined, but these are the ones I’ve played over the past year and I didn’t do anything different.
“So nothing new. It’s a fresh start in 2023 and I hope to continue to do well.”
