The host’s 3-0 white goal is of course very beneficial, but Zimbabwe won Ryan Burle confident that the 10th ranked ODI team in the world can upset India.
Craig Ervine, Zimbabwe’s regular captain, will miss the series due to a hamstring injury. In the absence, Regis Chakabva, who led Zimbabwe to a 2-1 win in the recent ODI series against Bangladesh, will lead the team once again.
With the Zimbabwe vs India series set to begin on Thursday (August 18), TimesofIndia.com chatted with 28-year-old Zimbabwean all-rounder Ryan Burl, who is part of the current team that will be joining Men in Blue, to talk about the series and more.

Burl, a left-arm middle hitter and broken-leg pitcher, has so far played 3 Tests, 28 ODIs and 47 T20Is for Zimbabwe.
After a string of home wins against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe will start playing a series of 3 ODI vs India matches. What is the group’s plan?
The team’s plans will be quite similar to (the plans of) a few months ago. We will express ourselves as much as we can. If you’re a hitter, your plan is to score as many runs as quickly as possible. And if you’re a pitcher, your plan is to run as little as possible. We will try to keep things as simple as possible.
The last time Zimbabwe won an ODI vs India series was in 1996-97 at home, the team’s only ODI series win over Men in Blue. How important is this upcoming series to you and your team?
It’s very important. First of all, we don’t really get a chance to play against India very often. So when you get these opportunities, you have to give your best and take advantage of it. And second, it’s opportunities like this (playing) one of the best teams in the world, where you can showcase your talent and put yourself on the map for bigger and better things. more coming. It is extremely important to us.

In theory, India would be the favorites to win this series. Can Zimbabwe prevent India from signing up for a wipeout or does the team have enough weapons in their arsenal to stun Team India?
Yeah sure. I don’t see any reason why we can’t win. We have the home field advantage. We’ve been playing pretty well at home lately. People were obviously talking about people like Streaky (Heath Streak) and Hoa (Andy Flower and Grant Flower) and all those people back then. Now we have our own legends. We have Raza (Sikandar Raza), we have Ervine (Craig Ervine), we have Williams (Sean Williams). We have all these other legends. Maybe there’s something wrong with me if I don’t think we can win because every time you step on the court or the court or whatever the competition is, you’re trying to win. So we’re looking at (about the series) very actively and hopefully, we can do something special.
Are there any Indian players in the current squad that inspire you? When you meet him, what will you ask him?
Honestly, I will mention Rishabh Pant. I see myself in him. Probably a rather short, stocky left-hander who likes to hit the ball. I definitely want to test his brain a bit, hopefully, and obviously try and outdo him on the number of boundaries. We’ll see how it plays out.

Who is the Indian beater that Team Zimbabwe will aim for the most?
All 10 of them (in a match). I don’t think there’s only one or two. It’s clearly the talent and depth that Indian cricket has so I can’t really pick one or two. I’d say I would be happy to get all 10.
Did Zimbabwe miss a comeback? Virat kohliWho is not part of this upcoming series?
Virat is an absolute legend of the game. He’s probably one of the best I’ve ever seen. When he misses that obviously means someone else will take his place and I’m sure they’ll want to put their hands up. So in terms of us and how we expect it to be, it’s obviously a big challenge and we’re obviously going to look to do the best we can.
Which Zimbabwean players and batters should Team Idia be the most vigilant about?
Raza is having a good bit of a patch. He’s got a little purple. Now he has some good form. Innocent Kaia and Regis Chakabva – they only appear in the hundreds. These three are clearly in some good nicks. The bowlers are also participating. Our spinners have clearly tried to bring their game back. Our beachgoers also won us a few games. Like I said, we’ve played quite a bit of cricket in the last few months and the batters have won us games, the bowlers have won us games. So it is difficult to identify just one or two. Hopefully everyone can contribute on the day and it culminates in a team victory.
Before the series, what did the coaches say to the Zimbabwe team members?
The head coach said to keep it as simple as possible, scoring as many runs as fast as possible. And about bowling, try to run as little as possible. If we try to overcomplicate the game, then things can go a little wrong.
